In the early 1970s, a black and a white high school was closed down and the students sent to T.C. Williams High School under federal mandate to integrate. The year is seen through the eyes of the football team.Coach Herman Boone was hired to coach, he's African American over the highly successful white coach Bill Yoast who is white.Conflict and anger were arises when players of different races are forced to work together and play on the same football team. Many of racial comments and conflict were eased during the two week training camp in Gettysburg.
 Gerry was the white team captain and Julius was the black teams captain, these two characters are important because they developed an amazing friendship built on trust and respect. They learnt to appreciate the meaning of trusting a man’s soul rather than their colour. They worked to overcome the racial issues and heal the conflict. In the beginning Gerry and Julius would not acknowledge one another, they were like cat and dog. The community was very negative and did not help the team, both the blacks and whites the blacks were hostile and the white community were going to boycott the seasoning by not letting their sons play on the team. Later on in the movie, Coach Boone and family were at the new house their neighbours are white and ignorant. While they were unpacking their furniture etc one of their neighbour was looking outside their window and said are they the removalist. 

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have announcement to make. We've got Jerry Lawis and Dean Martin going to the camp with us this year. Jarry tells the jokes and Dean sings the songs and gets the girls. lets give 'em a round of applause." says because of Gerry and Dean being racist and not being polite to black members of the team, bbefore the boys of both the black and white players are leaving to go to the football camp they were separated into different buses, but Coach Boone doesn't tolerant this, so he mixes it up and gives them all a partner that their going to share a room with. Get to know about their personal life and hopefully start to knowledge each other and become a team united as one.

"This is not a democracy. It is a dictatorship. I am the law!" this one of the most powerful things that Coach Boone said. Both Coach Yoast and Coach Boone reduced prejudice and Discrimination by sustained contact is when someone holds prejudices against an outer group person but their prejudice/stereotype will be reduced with frequent interaction. Before the departure of the team they were separated into color in different buses but Coach Boone made them mix they were told to slept mixed and know each others personal life.
